Prayers of Blessing

It was wonderful to receive the well-wishes of the congregation at worship yesterday (May 15). I was especially grateful to hear that so many intend to pray for us while we're away. Those prayers are very much appreciated!

During the early service, the congregation joined in prayers of blessing for those of us going on the Russia/Latvia trip. I thought I would share those here, for those who could not be present.
Almighty God, you sent your Son Jesus Christ to reconcile the world to yourself. We praise and bless you for those whom you have sent in power of the Spirit to preach the gospel to all nations. We thank you that in all parts of the earth a community of love has been gathered together by their prayers and labors, and that in every place your servants call upon your name.

Guide Andrea, Ronald, Hazel, and Todd as they travel to Russia and Latvia. May they see the face of Christ in the people they meet. May the places they visit, and the stories they hear, deepen the connection between our congregations. May the journey equip them to inspire this congregation to persevere in these mission partnerships.

All-powerful God, you always show mercy toward those who love you and you are never far away for those who seek you. Remain with your servants on this journey and guide their way in accord with your will. Shelter them with your protection by day, give them the light of your grace by night, and, as their companion on the journey, bring them to their destination in safety.
To you, O God, be glory and honor through your Son, Jesus Christ, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, in your church and in the world, now and forever. Amen.
Today is a day of preparation, last-minute details and packing. Ronald and I will be picking Hazel and Todd up in the morning and we will fly out of Minneapolis in the afternoon. We'll connect through Chicago to Warsaw, Poland. We arrive there Wednesday morning and have a 45-minute stopover to make our connecting flight to Moscow. These will be the first three out of ten different flights during the trip!

(That's my special prayer request - that all of the flights and connections go well!)
